Urban Mountain Hiking Lecture Series to Spotlight Conservation and Sustainable Trail Development in Ado-Ekiti
Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State | February 2026
Stakeholders in hiking, conservation, research, and tourism will converge in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, February 7, 2026, for the Urban Mountain Hiking Lecture Series, an initiative designed to deepen understanding of urban mountains beyond recreation and reposition them as vital ecological, cultural, and community assets.
The lecture series, themed “Light Hike • Clean • Document,” will take place at Eminent Hotel, along NTA Road, Ado-Ekiti. It is structured as a learning and engagement platform for hikers, nature lovers, researchers, volunteers, and tourism stakeholders committed to the protection and sustainable development of Ekiti’s urban mountain landscapes.
According to the organisers, the programme responds to the rising popularity of urban hiking and the urgent need to promote conservation, proper documentation, and responsible trail development. Participants will explore how urban mountains can serve as engines for biodiversity conservation, environmental education, tourism growth, and community wellbeing when properly managed.
Key focus areas of the lecture series include:
Biodiversity and Urban Ecology
Documenting Mountains and Trails
Trail Development and Sustainability
Bird Watching and Nature Interpretation
Project Review and Community Action
Beyond lectures and discussions, the initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to promote light-impact hiking, environmental cleanliness, and systematic documentation of Ekiti’s mountainous terrains as a foundation for long-term eco-tourism planning.
Speaking on the initiative, Coordinator of Ekiti Tourism Club, EriOluwa Segun-Dipe, noted that the lecture series is part of a broader movement to build a knowledge-driven hiking culture in Ekiti—one that balances adventure with conservation, research, and strong local participation.
The Urban Mountain Hiking Lecture Series is expected to strengthen collaboration among outdoor enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and tourism stakeholders, while further reinforcing Ekiti State’s growing reputation as a hub for eco-tourism and urban nature experiences.
