Virtual Tours and Improved Security: A New Chapter for Southwest Nigeria Tourism

The improving security situation across Southwest Nigeria presents a renewed opportunity to reposition domestic tourism. With the recent release of kidnapped victims in Ekiti and Oyo States alongside the passage of state policing laws, confidence in the region is gradually being restored.


This is the right time for tourism stakeholders, government agencies and private operators to intensify efforts to remarket domestic tourism. One effective strategy is the integration of virtual tourism experiences, which allow prospective visitors to explore destinations online, build confidence and plan future visits.
Virtual tours serve as a bridge between curiosity and physical travel. They showcase destinations, cultural festivals, historical landmarks, eco-tourism sites, hospitality facilities and Indigenous experiences while reinforcing the message that Southwest Nigeria is becoming a safer and more welcoming destination.


As security continues to improve, combining virtual tourism with on-ground tourism promotion can stimulate domestic travel, attract investment, support local businesses, create jobs and strengthen the regional tourism economy.
The time has come to rebuild confidence, reshape perceptions and invite Nigerians to rediscover the beauty, culture and adventure that Southwest Nigeria has to offer.
